ANSYS Inc. Launches Version 6.1 or the ANSYS Software Suite Release Loaded with Major Usability, Technology and Performance Enhancements Canonsburg, PA - April 22, 2002 - ANSYS Inc. (NASDAQ: ANSS), the global innovator of simulation software and technologies designed to optimize product development processes, today announced the first customer shipments of version 6.1 of the complete ANSYS? software suite. This new release features major upgrades to ANSYS Structural, Electromagnetics, Multiphysics and LS-Dyna products, including a new user interface to significantly improve product usability, new simulation capabilities for gasket simulation and fluid-structure interaction, and more than 200 additional new feature and performance enhancements designed to accelerate new usage of the ANSYS software suite. New non-linear structural and multiphysics technology has been added to ANSYS 6.1. Structural non-linear capabilities to support gasket analysis have been enhanced through the addition of a new material model and a new set of interface elements. To support the polymers, glass and casting industries, additional material models for viscoelasticty and cast iron have been added. ANSYS 6.1 also includes major technology enhancements in the area of cyclic symmetry analysis, critical to the rotating machinery and gas turbine industries. Multiphysics analysis has been enhanced by the new automated fluid-structure interaction capability. Analysis of fluids and structures now can be solved in a coupled fashion - for both static or transient analysis - producing more accurate results faster. ANSYS 6.1 customers also will benefit from enhanced performance, particularly in the simulation of non-linear and very large models. Used for frictional contact and highly non-linear analysis, the unsymmetric sparse solver is 20% faster and has been parallelized, resulting in a 250% increase in shared-memory parallel processing speed when using four processors. Graphics processing speed improvements also have been made to ANSYS 6.1, resulting in performance that is two to five times faster for large models, especially large shell models. "We believe that delivering significant program advancements in product updates is essential to our continual support of customers' evolving product development needs," stated Michael Wheeler, vice president, ANSYS Inc. "ANSYS 6.1 is loaded with increased functionality and performance - a solution that we believe will greatly enhance our customers' productivity and impact their bottom line."
